DUBEU | RM Spotlight Feature

Welcome back to another installment of the Rooted Minds Blog’s Spotlight Feature, where we shine a light on creatives, artists, and entrepreneurs that are making strides to take their careers to the next level. In addition to that it is a space where we can celebrate the success stories of members of our community, friends, and newly discovered creatives.

Up next, we have an artist currently in Phoenix, Arizona working to make his dream a reality and spread his message and art across the globe. We’ve been tracking his progress for close to 3 years now via the open-mic scene, RWRS Podcast and more. We are glad to finally be able to bring this article to life.

BIO: Born Southside Chicago Illinois, to a nomadic family, DUBEU was never one for being stagnant. Moving from one state to another he always carried a passion for writing. Influences like Dr. Seuss, William Shakespeare, and Alexandre Dumas; DUBEU wrote stories and poetry before he even knew what he wanted to do with his life (He was only 9 at the time) Fast forward 6 years he gets influenced again but through hip hop from people like Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Twista, and Common; DUBEU knew what his calling was and eversince then has put poetry, story telling, and hiphop together as one...From directing to writing to even co-producing!

INTERVIEW: DUBEU x Rooted Minds Blog

RM: What has been your journey to being an artist OR owning your own business and what has been the most impactful lesson that you've learned?

DUB: My journey has quite simply been jus learning that its not about the destination really its about the journey itself...learning the details on not just getting there but how you get there in the 1st place. My lesson is experience and being open to jus simply live...

RM: For those that may not know, how did you come up with the name or concept for your business or project?

DUB: 4Ever450 started off as a Co-Movement for a movement i was leading for years founded by a brother of mine....When he died i jus took lead of that movement and turned it into a frequency because thats what pure movement is as one...FREQUENCY. (He taught me this) Ever since then the energy i been giving has been reciprocated tremendously jus to give it all back to feel what being ULTRA truly is....its more then me and it starts with you!

RM: Tell us about your inspiration behind an upcoming project and what do you hope the audience takes away from it?

DUB: I jus want people to see the relativity in all that WE do. I write what i feel and film what i see just to bring it to the people who need to hear and see it the most. What i have in store is jus the tip of the iceberg for whats to really to come. I just want people to see themselves when they see whatever i do. I consider my music to be something of a mirror when you hear it. What do you see when you look in the mirror?

RM: What have been some effective ways that you've marketed yourself in your space and industry?

DUB: I make connections everyday whether its thru all forms of art, my job (im a chef) or the internet itself. I believe in conversation over small talk. You never know who you’re talking to and what they can offer that can benefit the both of you! I don’t shy away from anyway to spread my art for expansion.

RM: How have you grown as an entrepreneur or creative in the last 5 years and who's been influential in that process?

DUB: I went from dropping music randomly jus to drop it; to planning strategically when n how to drop it to even working with promoters and building a street team to get it out even more....I went from paying to play kinda shows to; doing open mics and even performing on the street to get a better buzz on my name then thinkin the club scene was how it would happen. I went from stressin trying to get paid off this to building my value in presence and believing the money will come eventually its all gonna be okay cuz at the end of the day i still have something thats priceless and thats my love for this. My mom has been a big part of the inspiration on going harder not jus for my family but for myself...

RM: What are some short-term goals that you are working towards, that friends and supporters can help you with?

DUB: Im filming constantly got one happening on the 13th for a song I haven’t released yet im always down to growing my cast a little more! Im always working on merch and even doing a writers workshop this month from the 15-31st for any artist who take their art serious and is looking to expand it let me know lets work!!! I love expanding lets do it together!!

RM: What are one or two things that keeps you grounded? How do you practice good self-care or how can you practice it better (if you've been lacking in that area)?

DUB: Meditation really helps a crowded mind especially mine because im always up to something! I love aroma therapy too. I always gotta burn some good palo santo before i leave the house and sage when i get back to get that lingering energy off of me. Maybe a good book to read in the morning when im jus too tired to think to give me insight on things i lack it on...

RM: What are some words of wisdom or encouragement for upcoming creative entrepreneurs that you'd like to share?

DUB: YOU GOT THIS... it’s so many likeminded individuals who think they can’t but wanna take that leap of faith but i jus wanna say Whether you think you can or cant you are absolutely right! This world is yours and youre only as strong as you KNOW you sre but you’re stronger than you THINK....You are loved you are light and thank God for YOU🙏🏾🖤♾

RM: What has been the best piece of advice you have ever received in reference to your career and industry?

DUB: You gotta love yourself to show others how to love you correctly....
