We all triggered - Jhene Aiko

A few weeks ago Jhene Aiko the singer and song writer we all know and love dropped a new single called "Triggered" where she shares her emotional and mental state through and after a relationship. Now if you are like the rest of us you are waiting to see if Big Sean will be dropping a response to the song because come on we all know it is about him.

According to Aiko, the song is not about her ex Big Sean, but more so emotions she needed to release. Prior to dropping the track, Aiko posted on social media. "One night I was so deep in my feelings, I was afraid of what I might do," I didn't want to revert to the same bad habits that have set me back time and time again. I realized that instead of running away from my emotions... I needed to sit with them, express myself and say whatever came to mind. It was healing to say the least... and now I feel a bit more free."

This post isn't my opinion of the song but more so my praise on the way Aiko went about dealing with her emotions. We have all experienced emotions that we did not want to deal with and desired nothing more than to bottle them up, yet Aiko chose to deal with them, which created a great summer bop! The song follows her true feelings, the back and forth of loving someone but wanting to be so far away from that person because they are causing so much pain.

Following its release, Aiko shared "a moment that for me has passed. it is new to you because ur just now hearing it, but for me... it's something i moved on from the moment i expressed it."

As someone who is on this long journey of emotional intelligence and mental health I found it comforting that Aiko sought healing from a place as this. So many artists create such beautiful masterpieces in such hard times in their lives and we never question it. In a world where people are suffering alone in their heads it is beautiful to see someone decide to release tension and seek true healing. That is what we should all be doing, facing our demons head on and seek healing!

Peace.
