Menace to Sobriety

August 12, 2018

Wavered but unbroken,

assailing life's uncanny seasons

with labors unrested.

I fancied those summer parties in the city,

where bodies sway deep into the sunset,

into their vice,

into escape.

I've found a love for the essence

of the air that some never breathe.

I enjoy an elevated life above the skyscrapers,

pressed against the night's eye.

I roll the grass between my fingertips

and enjoy the rain till it dries.

To the idea of normalcy

I stand erect in the contrary,

a lush with a smile, I cheer

to the sunrise.

Even in the stale hours of morning,

those parties never end,

glasses still raised, menacing.
